Eight Etudes for Marimba

$25.00

This is a set of 8 advanced concert Etudes for marimba

Note - Etudes 2, 4, and 7 contain pitches that are out of range of a low A marimba. This set includes alternate versions of each passage to accommodate low A (4.3 octave) instruments.

Etude 1 in Bb Minor: Permutations

Etude 2 in D Major: Chorale

Etude 3 in A Minor: Double Strokes

Etude 4 in B Minor: Intervals

Etude 5 in Eb Major: Independent Strokes with inner Mallets

Etude 6 in C Major: Polyrhythms

Etude 7 in F Major: Octaves

Etude 8 in C Minor: Single-Handed Rolls

These pieces are dedicated to my friends Sam Durant and Clint Schmidt for all of their unconditional support.

A significant lack of solo marimba repertoire aiming to develop advanced four mallet techniques has motivated me to compose this set of 8 Études. Many composers have written books of concert études for various instruments such as Chopin’s Études for piano (Op. 10 and 25), and Paganini’s 24 Caprices for violin (Op. 1). Very few of these collections exist for marimbists to perform, but I am happy to add one to the list.
